We are ending support for HFS+ after macOS 12.3 or later. The new Files On-Demand experience requires a volume that is formatted with APFS. Depending on the results of that test, you may want to delay updating your Macs.
If you are concerned about application compatibility with this change, we strongly suggest that you install macOS 12.3 or later and test your workload.
You cannot delay this update without also delaying an update to macOS.
Files On-Demand will default to on for all users and cannot be disabled.MacOS 12.2 will be the last version that supports the classic Files On-Demand experience. Users on our Insiders program can continue to use macOS 12.0, but we strongly encourage them to update to the latest version.
